HUNGER

There is no question that the recession is brutal and it is set to get worse but one of the many things that really makes me cross are the overweight people decked out in bling with layers of make-up and false nails who say they are not able to feed their children.

We’ve all seen them in the supermarket chatting away on their mobile phones while filling their trolley’s with ready meals.

The sprogs have designer trainers and jeans and are glued to their iPods or gamers and have bad attitudes and no manners. These kids are brought up to believe that tax payers should support them. I look around and my conclusion is that I have disappeared down the rabbit hole.

This surely can’t be reality or the future of humanity!

I know mothers who spend more on a haircut, colour and high/low lights than I would spend feeding a family for a week or more. But poor them! They need our cash and support to maintain their lifestyles.

There are pensioners living on the poverty line. They have to choose between food and heat. These are the people who paved the way for the spongers without realising it. I wonder if they look back in anger.

It’s sad that people find time to spend hours on end on social networking sites but don’t have time to make a pot of stew. They don’t care that their kids are out throwing stones at passing cars. Or that they are drinking and smoking, fighting and tormenting neighbours.

Sure why not shove your wean a pizza or a pot noodle and go back to Faceoff. How many children go to the chippy after school because there is no one with a will to have a hot meal ready for them at home? I see so many buying breakfast from a fast food outlet. It’s beyond sad. It’s shameful.

There are so many things wrong with “modern” society and if we don’t address them we are in big trouble.

There are good people out there and they bring their kids up well but it seems that they are increasingly outnumbered by the wasters. We know who they are but are afraid to confront them.  After all, they have rights. Pity you and I don’t get the same backup.

There are people trying to care for the planet and live in a green and economical way. They do their best but it is an uphill struggle. For every tree planted thousands are made into furniture.

We have so much and give back so little. There are children starving and living in abject poverty and we are throwing food away. Mother Nature is in the process of re-balancing.

We are so smug. We believe we are superior and bullet proof. We’re not.
