Legal Eagles aka Vultures

I am still ranting ... but this is important.

When Tiger and I bought our house in Portstewart in 1992 our solicitor encouraged us to take an endowment mortgage option because he would be able to give us a discount on his legal fee.

How generous of Hugh Clarke of Greer, Hamilton & Gailey & now Associates!

I am still paying £74.70 a month for a "product" that was never going to pay my mortgage off. We would have been out on the street if we had not been fortunate enough to sell the house first.

At the time I was working in the Central Claims Unit in Belfast. Our in-house solicitor, Ann McCleary, now a government advisor on legal matters, nearly dropped when I explained the great deal we got. Ann said that we shouldn't have been charged a fee at all under the circumstances. She was also aghast at the fact of our solicitor being involved in selling endowment assurance/insurance ... whatever the term is ...

If only I had twigged at the time. But one tends to have faith in one's Legal Eagle!
